• Legacy IDE driver to be dropped from next Linux kernel release

From highvoltage@VERT/SAVCC to All on Tue Jun 29 09:25:01 2021
Linux 5.14 will be dropping the legacy IDE driver:

    https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Linux-5.14-Legacy-IDE-Dropped

This is the old driver that identifies PATA disks as /dev/hdX, at least PATA disks
will still work with the libata driver (which most Linux systems do these days anyway that identify disks as /dev/sdX).

Saves a whole 40k out of 3m lines of code :P

    Thanks for the news.

Please note that IDE will still be suported with libata. I know you said it in your
post but it is worth repeating. You nearly gave me a stroke because I happen to run
many systems with IDE drives in them.
