Re: Upgrades and cruft...

Every couple of months, I take my BBS offline, download the SBBS_RUN.ZIP
and SBBS_DEV.ZIP files from Vert, and copy over my "live" exec, web and
xtrn folders. Run a jsexec update. Outside of a tweak or two, it works
like a charm.
This time, all looked good, but then sbbs_ctrl died with no error. Just, Poof! Tried a couple of times, no go.
I put my old EXEC directory back, everything worked just fine.
On a lark, I tried copying the vanilla, newly downloaded EXEC folder
back into my SBBS folder, and it worked.
I've copied the old SBBS folder from system to system since 2004.
There's been quite a bit of cruft along the way - the old folder has
1,221 files, the new version has 613!
It sounds like a DLL/EXE version mismatch. Usually sbbsctrl will at least play some tones if it detects a critical mismatch like that, but it can't always.
